Clergue had a specially designed pen constructed to house the deer he maintained as pets. Photograph: Sault Ste. Marie Public Library. |
Not only did Clergue keep deer as pets, he also kept bears. Two bears, chained to a post, resided in his front yard. Photograph: Sault Ste. Marie Public Library. |
The once grand gardens and fences surrounding the Block House disappeared to make way for industrial growth and progress. Photograph: LACAC |
In the early fall, the site selected for the Block House was cleared and levelled so that a foundation could be excavated. Photograph: LACAC |
After the site was leveled, the foundation was excavated and poured in preparation for the move. Photograph: LACAC. |
Prior to the move, the Block House was surrounded by tools and equipment belonging to St. Mary's Paper. New buildings, such as the one to the right of the Block House were planned for the site on which the building stood. |
